Summer is finally here (well, kinda) and if there’s one warm weather beauty tip I can give you, it’s to wear sunscreen. I know it’s lame and not something you want to think about applying on a regular basis, but the absence of sunscreen is detrimental. Let me break it down:
Skin cancer is real, ya’ll. And studies have shown that wearing daily sunscreen reduces your chances of getting the disease. And I don’t just mean wearing sunscreen to the beach. UV rays reflect off water, sand, snow, even the windows of your car. That’s why it’s so crucial to wear it on a daily basis.
Now I know what you dark skinned beauties are thinking: “I don’t like to wear sunscreen because it makes me so chalky and white looking.” I hear you, but there are solutions. Last week I posted a story on PureWow about my love for Glossier’s Invisible shield sunscreen. It’s a clear watergel formula filled with active microcapsules that instantly absorbs into skin with no greasy residue and zero white cast. Seriously, no white cast. I didn’t believe it would work, but it honestly did.
There’s also a pretty powerful combination of vitamin E, vitamin P, broccoli, and aloe leaf extracts that help neutralize free radicals inside skin. And, the claims of it being hypoallergenic, dermatologist-tested, non-comedogenic, paraben free, fragrance free, appropriate for all skin types, and cruelty free is something we can all get behind.
So here’s what you do. Just apply 15 minutes before sun exposure, and reapply at least every two hours for optimal protection. It’s not water-resistant (I know that sucks) so you’ll have to use a water-resistant sunscreen if swimming or sweating.
Have you tried it? What sunscreens are you using this summer?
